Green Wall

We love green walls, but the economic reality of the project is that we could not afford a pre-manufactured option.  Instead, we decided to get a similar affect by lining a vertical element in the stairwell with plants.

We have posted a bunch of photos below to illustrate the process.  It was quite simple – if you have a mother with a green thumb.  She kindly started all the plants at her house from cuttings of her own plants and then did all the repotting for us, and keeps them alive with advice.

The pots and hangers are old maple syrup buckets and taps that we found at a flea market.  We added some rocks to the bottom and a piece of coconut matting to keep the soil from washing into the rocks.  Then added soil, potted the plants and hung them up.  Most of the plants have been doing very well.  This was a pretty cost effective solution to getting some healthy greenery into the stairwell.
