Stairs

Certainly one of the more complicated aspects of our project was the stairs. They serve a fairly critical function in a 3-storey house with a roof deck on top, but they are also the primary architectural element on the interior. Our stairs are quite simple really, but it took a long time to find a contractor who would do them for us. The job seemed to be too small for some shops, too detailed for other shops. We also had to do some last minute re-designing because the framing of the house was not exactly as drawn. In the end, we hired Black Anvil from Carp, Ontario to come and build them on site. They also built the railings in their shop. We are really happy with the result. The stringers are re-claimed 7″ channel sections from a demolition outside of town. The treads are 2″ thick re-claimed Ash.
