Pointe Nord

At Pointe Nord we are seeking LEED-ND, a process that involves smart urban planning as well as a lot of detailed documentation. BuildGreen has not only helped us document, oversee and pull together the application process, they have been true thinking partners, seeking sustainable solutions from the planning stage and right through to construction. They bring a holistic perspective to green building, thinking through the full range and environmental implications of each decision and doing so with an understanding of and appreciation for the developer’s perspective.

BuildGreen Solutions provided detailed sustainability consulting services for Pointe Nord, a new mixed-use community on the northern tip of Nun’s Island in Montreal.  From this project’s conception as a LEED-ND Pilot Project with the USGBC’s first version of the rating system, through to its submission as a Stage 2 LEED-ND Gold project, BuildGreen Solutions team members led the LEED-ND project management and strategy.

The project consists of 1500 new housing units, with 50,000 square feet of commercial space, on the northern tip of Nun’s Island.  The Champlain Bridge passes over the island near the site of this large mixed-use residential/commercial project, adjacent to Bell Canada’s new corporate headquarters campus.

BuildGreen Solutions advised the property owner, Proment Corporation, on optimal approaches to achieving a sustainable neighbourhood development on this infill property.  We also investigated low-carbon community-scale energy system options, identified potential partners and financing models.

The development plan now includes abundant parkland, water treatment through creation of new wetlands for half of its stormwater, high recycled content in infrastructure, almost zero surface parking, light pollution reduction measures, civic design and energy-efficient building design targeting LEED Gold.
