Sustainability Action Planning

Sustainability Action Planning is a process of aligning a project’s vision and objectives, and crafting a suite of solutions relating to major sustainability issues such as energy, water, waste, habitat, health and well-being.

BuildGreen Solutions has been involved in the creation of sustainability action plans for some of the most innovative community scale green developments in North America.  We help clients achieve ambitious goals in designing sustainable communities: treating wastewater on-site, producing as much energy as is consumed, and creating authentic, useful linkages with existing communities.

BuildGreen professionally facilitates sustainability planning with attention to environmentally sensitive and appropriate site planning, sustainable infrastructure, transportation and parking servicing, building design, landscaping, energy systems, provision and/or protection of green space, recreation facilities, and other details.

BuildGreen has been involved in the early stages of several large-scale green communities through the One Planet Communities program.  BuildGreen uses the One Planet Framework to rate, understand and promote sustainable developments.  We guide project teams, designers and community members early in such projects to establish a Sustainability Action Plan with tangible, measurable goals and ambitious objectives, both to inspire creativity and to hold team members accountable for their contributions.  These Action Plans then become the basis for future design choices, setting the context and the foundation for successful, innovative green developments.

The scope of a Sustainability Action Plan varies widely, from planning a 5,000-person mixed-use multi-year development to one-day workshops for smaller projects.

The One Planet Communities Framework uses the following set of Principles:
